The chapel of the Visitandines' cemetery in Ornans

The chapel is on the left in the garden of the convent of the Visitandines, at the end of their small cemetery.
You enter the garden by the ramp at 7 rue Edouard Bastide.

The Minimes, who arrived in Ornans at the beginning of the 17th century, built their chapel and their conventual dwellings. The convent, sold during the Revolution, was bought by Abbot Giros in 1839 for the benefit of the Visitandines, who created an educational center there. Major modifications were undertaken in 1854 to adapt the premises to this new use.
The cloister closed in 1936 and the convent in 1979. The municipality bought the premises to install the gendarmerie, the Treasury and other administrative services.

The chapel dates from the second half of the 19th century.
The cemetery has 21 tombs where the Visitation Sisters, who were in charge of the education of young girls, are buried.
The stone building is sober, topped by a cross and pierced by an ogival door.
At the back, a small wooden altar with a statue of the Sacred Heart of the Virgin Mary.
