The grand organ was used for the first time for Easter season 1991. Work on the new organ began in 1989. and included use of some pipes and woodwork from the previous instrument which had been used since 1937. The current organ was designed and built specifically for St. Joseph Cathedral by Charles Hendrickson of St. Peter. Minnesota. There are 3,292 pipes, 62 ranks, and 44 stops. The pipes range in size from a few inches long, weighing a few ounces, to 18 feet long, weighing more than 100 pounds.

Self-guided tours can be taken from 9-11:30 AM and 1-5 PM Monday through Friday unless a wedding or funeral is scheduled. Visitors may tour the Cathedral on Saturday and Sunday but these days present more liturgies to work around so visitors are encouraged to check our weekend schedule before arriving.
