Arkansas Fish & Game Commission operates this beautiful Nature Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Go in and sign the guest book. Hike at least the short loop of trail that starts out between the main nature center building and the smaller staging area to the southwest. A boardwalk will take you out over the wetlands, and even if it's been raining, the trail is paved.
If you have more time, a primitive trail (meaning "unpaved") loops around south of the shorter paved trail. The short trail brings you back to the back door of the nature center, past the flight cages where several eagles live. You may want to go right back outside again, to the huge bayou aquarium on the nature center's back porch, with its huge bayou fish. Ever see a grown-up minnow? Shiners can get to be 6 or more inches long! They were almost as impressive as the log-sized catfish lurking in the dark depths of the tree roots.
