La iglesia se edificó en el 1687 y en el 1720 se amplió al edificarse la Capilla de las Ánimas. En 1897 fue muy remodelada por el arquitecto diocesano de Málaga, Manuel Rivera Vera, quien añadió la nave de la Epístola. Se encuentra situada en la parte más alta del municipio, siendo uno de los primeros edificios de relevancia construidos en el municipio y, en torno al cual se va formando el casco urbano de Mollina.
La parroquia se levanta sobre una planta basilical de tres naves separadas por pilares octogonales que sostienen arcos de medio punto. La nave central posee armadura de madera con tirantes, y las laterales bóvedas de arista, entre las que se intercalan arcos fajones terminados en ménsulas de perfiles mixtilíneos. El estrecho presbiterio es rectangular, con bóveda de arista, al igual que las dos capillas que lo flanquean; los tres incluyen camarines. En la nave del Evangelio, hacia los pies, se abren dos capillas cuadradas interconectadas, originariamente dedicadas a la virgen Dolorosa y a Jesús del Dulce Nombre, con bóvedas semiesféricas decoradas con yeserías, segmentadas por ocho nervios con decoración naturalista colgante que surgen de un medallón central, que obedecen al estilo antequerano, fruto de la intervención de principios del siglo XVIII. En una de estas capillas –la bautismal- hay una buena pila de taza gallonada de caliza roja del Torcal del siglo XVIII. A los pies de la nave central se eleva el coro de madera.
En su interior; en el camarín abierto al retablo neobarroco del altar mayor, se venera la imagen de la Virgen de la Oliva, copia de 1937 de la que fue regalada en 1687 a la iglesia por el entonces obispo de Málaga, Fray Alonso de Santo Tomás; se encuentra sobre una media luna cordobesa de plata, de finales del XVIII. El retablo se corona por un Crucificado, que podría ser sevillano del XVII. En la nave de la Epístola hay una Inmaculada en madera dorada y policromada que imita el modelo canesco de mediados del siglo XX y una Dolorosa de vestir granadina muy repintada. En una de las capillas de los pies de la nave del Evangelio se halla una buena talla moderna de San Francisco de Asís. Finalmente, en los paramentos superiores de la nave central se encuentra un interesante Apostolado, óleos sobre lienzo del XVII, originarios de la capilla de la Vía Sacra de la iglesia antequerana de Los Remedios.

In the nave of the Gospel, towards the feet, there are two interconnected square chapels, originally dedicated to the Virgin of Sorrows and Jesus of the Dulce Nombre, with hemispherical vaults decorated with plasterwork, segmented by eight ribs with hanging naturalistic decoration that emerge from a central medallion. , which obey the Antequera style, the result of intervention at the beginning of the 18th century. In one of these chapels – the baptismal one – there is a good font of a galloned cup made of red limestone from El Torcal from the 18th century. At the foot of the central nave stands the wooden choir.
Inside; in the alcove open to the neo-baroque altarpiece of the main altar, the image of the Virgen de la Oliva is venerated, a 1937 copy of the one that was given to the church in 1687 by the then bishop of Malaga, Fray Alonso de Santo Tomás; It is located on a silver Cordoba crescent, from the end of the 18th century. The altarpiece is crowned by a Crucified, which could be from Seville from the 17th century. In the Epistle nave there is an Immaculate Conception in gilded and polychrome wood that imitates the canesque model of the mid-20th century and a highly repainted Granada dress Dolorosa. In one of the chapels at the foot of the nave of the Gospel there is a good modern carving of Saint Francis of Assisi. Finally, in the upper walls of the central nave there is an interesting Apostolate, oil paintings on canvas from the 17th century, originally from the chapel of the Sacred Way of the Antequera church of Los Remedios.
