Outside the main entrance to the Gyeonggijeon Shrine, two ancient lions (one male, one female) carry the dismounting post. The post warns all riders to dismount their horse when approaching this sacred site. The original post dates back to 1614. In addition to their function as a base to the marker, the lions also act as guardians of the shrine.
