The Planetarium building which is shaped like a flying saucer,has a 40 ft diameter dome. It was the first Planetarium in the Southern Hemisphere. It's located in Ibirapuera Park.

The park opened on January 26, 1957. It gets 350,000 visitors a year. It was designed by Eduardo Corona, Roberto G. Tibau e Antônio Carlos Pitombo, and modeled after 50s' architecture. Afer 7 years closed for renovation, the planetarium opened again in 2006.
