"Antonio Fernández García de Quevedo was born in Ourense in 1911. Without finishing his pharmacy studies, he moved to Madrid to collaborate as a film critic in various magazines. In 1934 he made his first professional short films and, in 1941, his first feature film, “Escuadrilla”. That same year he participated in the script for “Raza”, by Sáenz de Heredia. Given the markedly propagandistic nature of his works, after the Civil War his films obtained subsidies, aid and national awards, which is why perhaps his work has not been sufficiently valued from a technical point of view. Among his titles, "Wedding in Hell" (1942), "The Last of the Philippines" (1945) and "The Taming of the Shrew" (1955) stand out. He died in Madrid, in 1989.
Date of birth 09-Nov-1911 Date of death 1989
It was a post-war film director. His alignment with the Franco regime favored his recognition."
