A Mount Gay 30 racing sailboat fills a soaring niche at the TF Green Airport lobby in Warwick, Rhode Island. It has been on display and welcomed travelers for over two decades at the Information counter between the ground floor Arrivals exterior doorways. The landing at the top of the escalators by Security offers a great view of the vessel from above.

The boat has a gray hull with a white deck. Both sails are white with a two-tone blue design which sweeps across the pair. The mainsail sports the Rhode Island anchor and stars crest at its top, a "Welcome to Rhode Island" greeting in the midsection, and logos of four sponsors on the lowest panel.

My sailing knowledge is very limited and I was able to find just a few direct mentions of this vessel on line - here and here. Based on that, it is similar to the VG-Mount Gay 30 model listed on the Van Gorkom Yacht Design LLC website which describes the boat "...with a clean and elegant hull shape, narrow waterline beam and a low wetted surface." Its listed specifications, which may vary from the display:

  • Length Overall: 9.597m (31' 6")
  • Length at Waterline: 9.000 m (29' 6")
  • Max Beam: 3.330 m (10' 11")
  • Draft 1: 1.950 m (6' 5")
  • Draft 2: 2.154 m (7' 1")

Is there a tour: No

If boat is a garden what was planted in it: Not listed
