Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. It is situated on the island of Vágar and is a fresh water lake. It is also known as the floating lake.
At the southern end of the lake is the 30 m high waterfall Bøsdalafossur, which flows directly into the Atlantic Ocean. From some rocks south of the lake or from a drone, it looks as if the lake is floating 100 m above the sea. However, it is an optical illusion.
It is permitted to fish for trout in the lake.
At the northern end of the lake, where there is also a car park, the sculpture the Nix stands at the water's edge. The Nix is a mythical sea monster.
