De Grote of Sint-Michaëlskerk is een kerk aan de Grote Markt in de Overijsselse hoofdstad Zwolle. De schutspatroon en beschermengel van de kerk is de aartsengel Michaël, de bestrijder van de draak (Openbaring van Johannes 12:7). Een beeld van de engel staat op het dak van het voorportaal.

De huidige kerk is in de periode 1406-1466 gebouwd op de plek waar eerst een kleinere romaanse kerk stond die van vóór 1040 stamde. In de loop der tijd is de kerk verbouwd tot een driebeukige hallenkerk in de stijl van de Nederrijnse gotiek.

Door diverse blikseminslagen in respectievelijk 1548, 1606 en 1669 was de toren zeer verzwakt. Op 17 december 1682 stortte hij ten slotte in.[2] Zwolle verloor daarmee de destijds hoogste toren van het land. Deze was tussen de 115 en 120 meter hoog. Hiermee was deze hoger dan de Utrechtse Domtoren (112,5 meter). Het proces van aftakeling tussen 1669 en 1682 werd op doek vastgelegd door de Zwolse stadsschilder Jan Grasdorp.

Op de plaats van de toren werd in 1686 een achtzijdige consistoriekamer gebouwd. Ook het orgel was vernield en pas in 1721 werd een nieuw orgel geplaatst in de kerk.

The Grote or Sint-Michaëlskerk is a church on the Grote Markt in the Overijssel capital Zwolle. The patron and guardian angel of the church is the Archangel Michael, the slayer of the dragon (Revelation of John 12:7). A statue of the angel stands on the roof of the porch.

The current church was built in the period 1406-1466 on the site of a smaller Romanesque church dating from before 1040. Over time, the church has been transformed into a three-aisled hall church in the style of Lower Rhine Gothic.

The tower was very important due to several lightning strikes in 1548, 1606 and 1669. On December 17, 1682, he collapsed ten.[2] Zwolle designs the highest tower in the country. It was between 115 and 120 meters high. This was higher than the Utrecht Dom Tower (112.5 meters). The process of decline between 1669 and 1682 was captured on canvas by the Zwolle city painter Jan Grasdorp.

An eight-sided vestry was built in 1686 on the site of the tower. The organ was also destroyed and only in 1721 a new organ was placed in the church.
