The Virgen Stella Maris (Virgin Mary, Star of the Sea) is the patron saint of seafarers in general, and is regarded as such to the Navy of Paraguay. This monument, which has a circular stair leading up to the shrine and also incorporates an anchor, was set by the military. A plaque behind the anchor is in Spanish; a translation is:
