Vroeger had je in Nederland voor post die in dezelfde stad werd verstuurd ook stads-postzegels. Op deze van de stad Zwolle uit 1983 is de Sassenpoort afgebeeld vanuit de zuidzijde. De postzegel had een waarde van 35 cent.

Rond de 14e en 15e eeuw is een stadsmuur om het hele centrum van Zwolle gebouwd, in die tijd waren er 23 torens opgenomen in de muur, waarvan er nu slechts 3 over zijn gebleven.

Op verscheidene plaatsen zijn poorten in de stadsmuur aangebracht. In totaal waren dit er 8, waarvan alleen de Sassenpoort in zijn geheel bewaard is gebleven. De zes eeuwen oude Middeleeuwse Sassenpoort is in het eind van de 14e en begin 15e eeuw gebouwd ter verdediging van de stad. De poort had een plek in de stadsmuur die het centrum van Zwolle in de 15e eeuw omringde.

De Sassenpoort behoort tot de Top 100 van Nederlandse monumenten.De Sassenpoort is vier dagen per week geopend voor bezoek. Neem een kijkje op de website van de Sassenpoort voor de openingstijden.

The six centuries old medieval Sassenpoort was built in the late 14th and early 15th centuries to defend the city. The gate had a place in the city wall that surrounded the center of Zwolle in the 15th century.
