Vasco da Gama Monument at the Kornhausbridge - Vasco da Gama on Waymarking.com

In the year 1903 statues of the 4 famous explorers Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Fernão Magalhães (Magellan) and James Cook where places at 4 corners of the Kornhausbrücke. The Kornhausbrücke leads to the storage quarter of the Hamburg harbour district. 1944 the Kornhausbrücke was damaged in an air raid and the statues of Magellan and James Cook where destroyed. In the time from 1988-1989 the Remaining statues of Columbus and da Gama where completely restored.
