"Giuseppe Maria Garibaldi (Nizza, 4 luglio 1807 – Isola di Caprera (La Maddalena), 2 giugno 1882) è stato un generale, patriota, condottiero, scrittore e politico italiano. Figura rilevante del Risorgimento, fu uno dei personaggi storici più celebrati della sua epoca. È noto anche con l'appellativo di «eroe dei due mondi» per le imprese militari compiute sia in Europa, sia in America meridionale.
Considerato dalla storiografia e nella cultura popolare del XX secolo il principale eroe nazionale italiano. La sua impresa più nota fu la vittoriosa spedizione dei Mille che portò all'annessione del Regno delle Due Sicilie al nascente Regno d'Italia, episodio centrale nel processo di unificazione della nuova nazione."

This roughly translates to: "Because the words that Guiseppe Garibaldi addressed to the people from this loggia on 29th December 1848 dazzled the tyrants and is still living in the souls of the citizens. The veterans of the patriotic battles. 20th September 1882". The abbreviation in the last line means "Questa Memoria Pose" - a phrase that is often found on memorials or headstones.
"Giuseppe Maria Garibaldi (4 July 1807 – 2 June 1882) was an Italian general, patriot, revolutionary and republican. He contributed to Italian unification and the creation of the Kingdom of Italy. He is considered one of the greatest generals of modern times and one of Italy's 'fathers of the fatherland', along with Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, Victor Emmanuel II of Italy and Giuseppe Mazzini. Garibaldi is also known as the 'Hero of the Two Worlds' because of his military enterprises in South America and Europe.
In 1848, Garibaldi returned to Italy and commanded and fought in military campaigns that eventually led to Italian unification."
