While on holidays I made a walk up the hill and encountered a geocache. (visit link)

The story within the geocache is the following:
"On 7 July 1944 in the early afternoon two young men were fishing in the waters of the Sieve River, in the hamlet of S. Detole (in the municipality of Dicomano), while a third man was picking potatoes in a field he owned, near the river.

Meanwhile Albino Cecchini, in that very place, collects an empty iron box from the ground which he later discovered to be a Germanic ammunition container. Fatality has it that a patrol of Nazi soldiers transits right at that moment. The military noticed the metal box and captured the four men who were there. The unfortunates were led to the back of a house and ordered to dig a grave. The prisoners were in despair; one of them, who proclaimed his innocence, was killed immediately. The Cecchini tried to escape but, while he was about to climb over the fence of the railway line, he was hit by the machine gun, falling to the ground wounded. Soon after the other two young men were shot. The Nazis grabbed Cecchini by the feet and dragged him into the pit, where his companions still showed signs of life. But that didn't stop the Nazis from finishing covering that mass grave with earth, suffocating and killing everyone.

The next day, July 8, 1944, in the locality of Capraia-Celle , a German patrol, made up of a dozen soldiers equipped with flamethrowers, not satisfied with the killings of the previous day, went to look for Albino Cecchini's house. When they found her, they broke into the farmhouse and exterminated his entire family.

Beverini Rosa Cecchini (59 years), Forasassi Maria Cecchini (28 years) and the little ones Bargellini Roberta (6 years) and Cecchini Antonio (3 months) were killed. The house was subsequently set on fire and for days the German command prevented the bodies from having a proper burial.

The cache is placed near the commemorative plaque of this tragic event, placed on April 25, 2013."
