According to the Leste Mert facebook page:
"The tradition has been going on since 1819, when it was the last opportunity to buy or sell cattle before winter and to purchase food and clothing at the commodity market.
Nowadays cows, horses, ponies and other livestock can be seen in the center of Druten. The commodity market consists of more than 300 stalls. There is also a small animal fair, fair and party in various catering establishments."

"The entire center is closed to traffic, in addition to cows, horses and other livestock, you can view the more than 300 stalls. There is also a fair and plenty of music. The village smells of pea soup, the traditional meal of the "Leste Mert". Tens of thousands of interested people come from all over the area, as well as high-profile visitors: all municipal authorities from the distant surroundings who come to eat pea soup together with the Drutens municipal council."
