"The Alminhas da Ponte are small souls located in Ribeira, in the city of Porto, in Portugal. It is a bas-relief in bronze made in 1897 by the sculptor Teixeira Lopes, father and which immortalized the 29th of March 1809 in which hundreds of people, fleeing the troops of Marshal Soult who were attacking the city under Napoleon's orders, died. crossing the Ponte das Barcas. The weight and distress of the fleeing population led to the sinking of the bridge that connected the two banks of the Douro River."
