In Oosthuizen kwam ik dit simpele maar toch mooie trafohuisje tegen. Volgens het kadaster dateert het huisje uit 1949. Het is een simpel gebouw met een tentdak, maar als je goed oplet zie je naast de ingang een tegel van een haan en een hond ingemetseld zien.

De tegels van de haan en de hond zijn in de trafohuisjes van de Provinciaal Electriciteitsbedrijf van Noord-Holland geplaatst ter versiering. Ze dienden echter ook een ander doel. De haan diende als waarschuwing voor het betreden van het huisje, dat vanwege de onder stroom staande delen levensgevaarlijk is voor onbevoegden. Onverlaten moesten oppassen voor de hond, die het bouwwerk verdedigde. Een mooi staaltje van symboliek.

In Oosthuizen I came across this simple yet beautiful transformer house. According to the land register, the house dates from 1949. It is a simple building with a tent roof, but if you pay attention you can see a tile of a rooster and a dog next to the entrance.

The tiles of the rooster and the dog have been placed in the transformer houses of the Provincial Electricity Company of North Holland for decoration. However, they also served another purpose. The rooster served as a warning before entering the house, which is life-threatening for unauthorized persons because of the live parts. Miscreants had to watch out for the dog, which was defending the structure. A nice example of symbolism.
