Tokyo Station is located in Chiyoda's Marunouchi business district near the Imperial Palace grounds.
Much of the station was destroyed during the World War II with firebombing raid on May 25, 1945. The bombing shattered the original impressive rooftop domes and the entire third floor of the building.
The Tokyo Station Marunouchi side underwent an extensive five-year renovation, completed in October 2012, in which the historic 98-year-old façade on this side of the station was restored to its pre-war condition. The restoration work included recreating the two domes according to their original design.
Now you can enjoy the "original" design of the dome.
