"Arnhems laadpalenbedrijf Allego miljarden waard op Wall Street
UPDATEARNHEM/NEW YORK - Het Arnhemse laadpalenbedrijf Allego gaat naar de beurs in New York.

Arnhem's charging station company Allego worth billions on Wall Street
UPDATEARNHEM/NEW YORK - The Arnhem charging station company Allego is going to be listed on the stock exchange in New York. The former subsidiary of network manager Alliander will be valued at more than $3.1 billion, the company reports on its own site.

For the IPO, Allego will merge with the so-called special purpose acquisition company, or 'spac', of investor Apollo Global Management. This is a fund with no activities of its own that is already listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Allego will take over the stock exchange listing through the merger.

Alliander© Alliander
Allego was set up by Alliander in 2013 to create customized charging solutions for municipalities, companies and transport companies. The company currently has 26,000 charging points for electric cars installed in twelve countries. In 2018, Alliander sold its subsidiary to the French investor Meridiam. That company will hold a stake of approximately 75 percent in Allego.

Investors will invest an additional $702 million in the company during the IPO. That money is needed, among other things, to allow Allego to continue to grow.

Stormy growth
Allego has experienced tremendous growth in recent years. On average, the company doubled its own turnover every year between 2017 and 2020. Up to and including 2025, the company expects an average annual sales growth of 46 percent, helped by a sharp increase in the number of electric cars in Europe. There are currently about 3 million plug-in cars on the continent, but according to Allego there will be almost 20 million in four years.

The charging station company also claims to have some technological trump cards to compete well. For example, software that combines traffic figures with estimates of the demand for electric charging helps Allego to choose suitable new locations. In addition, the company has its own cloud software for, for example, payment services.

Showpiece of Cleantech Campus
The company is the showpiece of Cleantech Campus Industrial Park Kleefse Waard IPKW in Arnhem and started there with 15 people. In 2019, the company reported that it employed nearly 300 employees in Europe. A reorganization has now been completed, a spokesperson said. “The number of employees is currently between 135 and 140.”

An old factory building formerly owned by AkzoNobel has been specially redeveloped on the Kleefse Waard to give the global player in the charging station market more space. Two years ago, Mayor Ahmed Marcouch of Arnhem was very pleased that the company had decided to keep its head office in the Gelderland capital and continue to grow from there. That will remain the case, the spokesperson emphasizes."
