In the "Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta" (Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption) in Pienza is a beautiful wooden choir with a badalone. In front of it a small sign informs us:
Anonymous Tuscan
15th century
Wooden choir with badalone
Pienza,
Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta,
1462
Choir restored by the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation and the Fabbriceria della Cattedrale in 2005 as part of the exhibition "Pius II, the city, the arts"
Badalone restored in 2006 as part of the exhibition "Pius II, the city, the arts"
Restorer: Piacenti Restoration Center
The choir is formed like a "U" around the badalone. Both are decorated with very beautiful inlays and intricate carvings. On top of the badalone is a metal holder for some kind of lamp.
