Although the Sieverink family started their butcher's shop here in 1980 , the history of a butchery in this building goes back more than 180 years.
The characteristic building with the beautiful Jugendstil front is exactly the same as it was in the early 1900's.

Originally it was built in 1639 as a farm in the city. The whole history is not known but it is assumed that animals were slaughtered at the farm. Later on a small shop was started.

The story begins with Jacob Levie Roos, who bought the property in 1836 and started a 'kosher' butcher's shop there. Only veal, beef and lamb were slaughtered and sold, entirely according to Jewish tradition. Roos later stopped working, and his son and later grandson succeeded father and grandfather and also entered the butcher trade. After working under this name for almost a century, Roos butcher's shop was a well known name in Lochem.

Because the Roos family was Jewish, they were all arrested in 1943, deported to Sobibor and murdered there. The shop was sold to a war buyer for a low price. After a long procedure, a relative of the Roos family finally managed to get the store back.

Four Stolpersteine were placed in front of the shop as a remembrance to the Roos family

After being vacant for a long time after the war, the butcher Even settled in the building for a short time.

After a few years, in 1950, he sold the butcher's shop to Herman Rijswijk.
Slagerij Rijswijk was well known in Lochem and the surrounding area. There are still customers of Slagerij Sieverink who talk about Rijswijk.
Bennie and Joke Sieverink took over the butcher's shop from Rijswijk in 1980. They owned the shop until 2020. The new owners decided to keep the old name, so Slagerij Sieverink is still here at Markt 9.
