NL Op het Floriade-terrein, vlak bij de noordelijke uitgang van de kabelbaan, staat een grote maquette van de toekomstige indeling van het Floriade-terrein. Dit wordt de woonwijk Hortus. De maquette is gemaakt van Lego en op schaal.

Vier studenten van Hogeschool Windesheim zijn tijdens hun stage bij de gemeente Almere bezig met een bijzondere opdracht. Met legosteentjes bouwen zij een maquette van de toekomstige stadswijk Hortus. Deze wijk komt na de wereldtuinbouwtentoonstelling op het Floriade-terrein.

De gemeente krijgt veel vragen over hoe de woonwijk eruit komt te zien. Dit is op een plattegrond vaak lastig te zien, door de maquette moet dit duidelijker worden. Ook halen Almeerders de woonwijk en het evenement geregeld door elkaar, vertelt Ria van Dijk van de gemeente.

De studenten die de maquette bouwen, studeren bouwkunde en lopen stage op de afdeling stedenbouw bij de gemeente Almere. Het viertal was direct enthousiast toen ze hoorden dat ze met LEGO aan de slag moesten. "Dat is natuurlijk leuk. Af en toe ben je heel erg bezig met verslagen maken. Dan is dit een leuke afleiding. En ook als ik tegen mijn vrienden en familie zeg dat ik voor mijn stage wat doe met LEGO, zeggen ze: jij hebt echt geluk dat je de kans krijgt om dit te doen."

Toch is het ook een uitdaging om Hortus na te bouwen. Zo zijn bepaalde kleuren moeilijk te krijgen en moeten de bomen en planten er realistisch uitzien. De maquette moet een zo goed mogelijk beeld geven van de realiteit. "Voor de gebouwen maken we een voorbeeld van de blokjes die we al hebben. Op basis daarvan proberen we op de computer een model te maken met de juiste kleuren en de juiste blokjes. Dan stellen we een lijst op met de juiste hoeveelheden. Zo komen we tot het definitieve ontwerp," vertelt een van de studenten.

De maquette wordt in totaal zestien vierkante meter groot. Het eindresultaat wordt tentoongesteld op de Floriade.

Four students from Windesheim University of Applied Sciences are working on a special assignment during their internship at the municipality of Almere. They use Lego bricks to build a model of the future Hortus district. This district comes after the world horticultural exhibition on the Floriade site.

The municipality receives many questions about what the residential area will look like. This is often difficult to see on a floor plan, this should be made clearer by the model. Almeerders also regularly mix up the residential area and the event, says Ria van Dijk of the municipality.

The students who build the model are studying architecture and are doing an internship at the urban planning department at the municipality of Almere. The foursome was immediately enthusiastic when they heard that they had to get started with LEGO. "That is of course nice. Occasionally you are very busy making reports. Then this is a nice distraction. And when I tell my friends and family that I do something with LEGO for my internship, they say: you have really lucky to have the opportunity to do this."

However, it is also a challenge to replicate Hortus. For example, certain colors are difficult to get and the trees and plants have to look realistic. The model must give the best possible picture of reality. "We make an example of the blocks we already have for the buildings. Based on that, we try to make a model on the computer with the right colors and the right blocks. Then we draw up a list with the right quantities. until the final design," says one of the students.

The model will be sixteen square meters in total. The end result will be exhibited at the Floriade.
