Waarom alleen dieren uit verre landen houden, als de Nederlandse natuur zo veel te bieden heeft? Volgens Dierenpark Amersfoort kwamen zij zo op het idee de dierentuin uit te breiden met Het Woud. Om aandacht te schenken aan dieren die bij ons in de bossen leven, maar die je zelden ziet.

De das is een prachtig dier, dat jaren geleden in ons land met uitsterven werd bedreigd. Er is veel geld in geïnvesteerd en nu hebben we er duizenden. Maar je ziet ze eigenlijk nooit. Wij zijn de eerste dierentuin in Nederland die straks dassen heeft. Het is voor ons ook een experiment. Het is nooit eerder gedaan, want dassen zijn schemerdieren en laten zich weinig zien."

Maar daar heeft het dierenpark iets op bedacht. Via ondergrondse tunnels kunnen bezoekers een kijkje nemen in de grote burcht van de das. Achter glas kunnen zij zo het ondergrondse, geheimzinnige leven van de dassenfamilie bekijken.

Why only keep animals from distant countries, when Dutch nature has so much to offer? According to Amersfoort Zoo, they came up with the idea to expand the zoo with Het Woud. To pay attention to animals that live in our forests, but that you rarely see.

The badger is a beautiful animal that was threatened with extinction in our country years ago. A lot of money has been invested in it and now we have thousands. But you never actually see them.
