The Koepelkerk Veenhuizen is a Dutch Reformed Church that was built in 1825/1826. It's a so called Waterstaatskerk, which means that parts of the costs to built it where payed for by the Dutch Governement.
The church was intended for the Reformed inhabitants of the Kolonie van de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid in Veenhuizen. Above the main entrance is a plaque with the text "On July 7, 1825, the first stone of this building was laid by the Hooggeboren Vrouwe Rudolphina Wilhelmina van den Bosch, geboren de Sturler". The building was inaugurated on June 25, 1826.
The Kolonie van de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid was an institution that was established to give orphans from the large Dutch cities, who lived in great poverty, a good education and training so that they would not end up in crime. Later, criminals were also imprisoned here. Veenhuizen once had six prisons, of which only one is left.
The church is still in service and is also registered as an official Dutch Monument.
