If you are on the main intersection in Wilanów - you will for sure notice a huge whisk sculpture. With over 22 feet it towers over the nearby playground. What is this? - you may think. If you come closer you will notice small letters on top of the handle that say - Jan III Sobieski. Then you realize it is not a whisk...
The sculpture is, in fact, a mace sculpture created in memory of the most famous resident of this part of the city - king Jan III Sobieski that ruled Poland in the XVII century.
The sculpture was created by Tadeusz Debski in 2001 and is a part of another monument of the king with his wife and dogs standing a few streets away. The author had an idea to create a 230 feet whisk-like tower with an observation deck and restaurant on the top. The sculpture that is standing here right now was just to give a taste of the bigger project. The tower idea was never executed and probably never will. The sculpture itself is so controversial that in 2008 town councilors were planning to move it to some smaller, less presentable street.
