De kerk gebouwd in 1892, is ontworpen door architect Nicolaas Molenaar sr. en uitgevoerd door C.P.W. Dessing[1]. Het gebouw geldt als een van Molenaars belangrijkste werken. Het is een kruisbasiliek in neogotische stijl, gebaseerd op de vroege Franse gotiek. De kerktoren is 77,2 m hoog en staat daarmee op de 31ste plaats van de lijst van hoogste kerktorens in Nederland. De toren wordt bekroond met een scherpe naaldspits met flankerende torentjes. Deze domineert van verre het profiel van Woerden.

The church, built in 1892, was designed by architect Nicolaas Molenaar sr. and executed by C.P.W. Dessing[1]. The building is considered one of Molenaar's most important works. It is a cross basilica in neo-Gothic style, based on the early French Gothic. The church tower is 77.2 m high and thus ranks 31st on the list of tallest church towers in the Netherlands. The tower is crowned with a sharp spire and flanking turrets. It dominates the profile of Woerden from afar.
There are several gargoyles on this church but at the main entrance are the most beautiful ones.
