ENG A long time ago (in 2010) I had a vacation day trip to Luxembourg City with friends. Although it was quite a long time ago, I can still remember the walking trip we took back then. It was a beautiful trip through one of the canyons of Luxembourg. Let me guide you along this path to some of the highlights of Luxembourg City:

The start of the Waytour is at the central square of Luxembourg City, the Place Guillaume II. A the south of the square is the city hall of Luxembourg City, stop 1. This is listed as a city hall, a bookcrossing zone and a satellite imagery oddity. The city hall is a beautiful 19th century building. From this building, go tot he south tot he rue Notre Dame tot he main cathedral of Luxembourg City, the Cathedrale Notre Dame.

The cathedral is stop 2. This beatiful building is listed in many different categories. It is a medieval church with a great beauty. Follow the Rue Notre Dame to the east ans go ahead in the Rue de l’Eau. To your left is the Grand Ducal Palace, also one of the main tourist attractions of Luxembourg City. Follow the Rue de l’Eau and go ahead in the alleyway. You should emerge at the Rue Sigefroi with on your right hand the Eglise St. Michel. There is a statue of St. Michel at the north side of the church. Keep walking until you reach the front of the Eglise St. Michel.

You’ve arrived at stop 3. This porch gives a beatiful view of the gorges of Luxembourg City and the World Heritage site of the Casemates of Bock. It also gives a great view of the monastery of Grund with it’s famous baroque architecture on your right hand. It is possible tot cross over tot he Casemates and follow a path down into the gorge tot he Stierchen Bridge.

The Stierchen Bridge is stop 4. It is one of the oldest bridges in Luxembourg and it is also famous for the Stierchen ghost. This ghost used to attach itself to traveller’s back and chase them back tot he city. Cross the bridge tot he Grun monastery site. You can follow the ancient wall of Luxembourg tot he Rue de Rham in the south. Go into the Rue de Rham which goes into the Rue de Treves, which goes into the Rue Munster. Cross the bridge over the Alzette river and turn left. This is the Rue St Ulric. After the parking lot to your right, go right, into the Rue Saint Quirin. Follow this road through parks and the gorge.

Between the two bridges Passerelle and the Adolphe Bruecke is stop 5. This is a nice park, surrounded by the canyon walls of Luxembourg and the two famous bridges. The Pont Adolphe is also featured on the former Luxembourgish money. Walk under the Pont Adolphe and after it is a stairs to reach the top of the canyon. Go tot he right after this and follow the Boulevard Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Enter the third street to your left and you will have reached the Hotel de Ville again.
