"The Iron Man is an artificial lake in the Eindhoven city district of Tongelre. It is located south of another lake, the Karpendonkse Plas.

De IJzeren Man was dug around 1910 for sand extraction for, among other things, the construction of the new Eindhoven Station, which was opened in 1912, and the Eindhoven-Weert railway line, which was completed in 1913. The name is a reference to the excavator used for sand extraction. This was popularly called the Iron Man.

The Iron Man was used as a natural swimming pool from 1917. It was a municipal swimming facility with a strictly separated women's and men's pools by a fence. Only many years later, after some spontaneous action by a few bathers, involving a number of agents, was the separation gradually abolished from 1954. This started with the ladies being allowed to go to the men's side, but not the other way around.

The Swimming facility was later privatized, so that it is now in private hands and is officially called Natuurbad De IJzeren Man Eindhoven BV. The family pool has a sandy beach and there are recreational opportunities such as pedal boating and rowing."
