Het bedrijf werd in 1868 opgericht door Bernhard Ruthemeyer senior. opgericht als een smederij en reparatiewerkplaats voor landbouwmachines. Vanaf 1888 exploiteerde de smederij een stoomwals vervaardigd door G. Kuhn in Stuttgart. Vanaf omstreeks 1905 fabriceerde Ruthemeyer ook haar eigen walsen, aanvankelijk met een stoommachine aandrijving, en iets later (vanaf 1909) ook met een verbrandingsmotor

The company was founded in 1868 by Bernhard Ruthemeyer senior. founded as a forge and repair shop for agricultural machinery. From 1888 the forge operated a steam roller manufactured by G. Kuhn in Stuttgart. From around 1905 Ruthemeyer also manufactured its own rollers, initially with a steam engine drive, and a little later (from 1909) also with a combustion engine.
