While wandering through Valkenburg I noticed this construction and its 2 bells in it. I learned later that this is called a belfry (klokkenstoel)

The bells are located in a Belfry in front of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Altijddurende Bijstandkerk (church) in Valkenburg.

About a belfry/klokkenstoel

"A belfry is a scaffolding of thick wooden or iron beams, in which one or more bells are suspended. A belfry can be mounted at the top of the church or bell tower, but it can also stand alone. A carillon also hangs in a belfry.

In masonry church towers, the need for a bell-chair soon arose when an assembly of bells had been built. The ringing of these bells caused cracks in the tower body. For this reason, various oak constructions were developed that conducted the vibrations well downwards and yet could bear the weight of the movable bells, which sometimes weigh more than 500 kilograms each."
