Memorial stone for 21 local men, women and children who were killed in the city between 1940 - 1945 during World War II. They became the innocent victims of the war. A memorial stone with their names was erected on August 14, 1955 by the citizens.

In May 1940, there were several attacks by Allied forces against the German occupying forces and repeated attacks by German fighters. The citizens had otherwise been evacuated, but had returned to the city when it was thought that attacks were not urgent.
This came to cost the many civilians their lives. Partly in bombed-out houses and partly hit by shrapnel. The youngest victim was 5-year-old Kjell Andreassen.

Bjerkvik was the place in Norway that, based on the size of the city, was most destroyed during World War II. 140 buildings were completely destroyed and 104 were severely damaged.
