"By far the most important bourgeois residence in Turnhout, successively owned by various families who were related to the castle: van den Nieuwenhuysen, van der Clu(y)sen, de Keersmaeckere, Lombaerts, van Gorkum, Mesmaeckers. First mentioned in 1570, in good condition, but very dilapidated a few years later. In 1706 it was sold to J.A. Lombaerts, namely stables, houses "daer voor en neffens", adjacent grounds, hovels and a bleaching-house, all together more than 300 rods.
Around the middle of the 19th century, it belonged to A. Nuyens-Reypens; in 1865, his son Martin Aloys built a new house on the south side of the large property; the iron gate on the street dates from that time; in 1889, the front was given its current appearance.
Since 23/5/1952, property of the city of Turnhout; protected on 28/3/1956."
