NL Op de Jannewekken in Zierikzee vond ik een plaquette op de noordoosthoek van een appartementengebouw. Volgens het bord is hier in 1904 de Ambachtsschool gebouwd. De Ambachtsschool werd feestelijk geopend op 1 oktober 1904. De eerste steen is nog onder de plaquette te zien. Deze moet zijn opgenomen in het nieuwe appartementengebouw. Dit gebouw dateert uit 1987. Toen moet de oude school zijn gesloopt.

Bijzonder is dat onder deze mededeling de ‘bevolking’ van de eerste groep studenten is aangeduid. Er waren 48 studenten, 17 timmerlieden, 14 schilders en 17 metaalbewerkers of smeden. Ze kwamen van heel het eiland Schouwen-Duiveland, per dorp is het aantal leerlingen gegeven.

ENG On the Jannewekken in Zierikzee I found a plaque on the northeast corner of an apartment building. According to the sign, the Craft School was built here in 1904. The Craft School was festively opened on October 1, 1904. The foundation stone can still be seen under the plaque. This must be included in the new apartment building. The apartment building was built in 1987. The school must have been demolished then.

What is special is that the 'population' of the first group of students is indicated under this announcement. There were 48 students, 17 carpenters, 14 painters and 17 metalworkers or blacksmiths. They came from all over the island of Schouwen-Duiveland, the number of students is given per village.
