NL Van bron

ENG From source
The Romerhuis is a well-preserved house with a shop in late Gothic style from around 1490 on the corner of Kwartelenmarkt and Wijngaardstraat in the Dutch Limburg city of Venlo. The building has been a national monument since April 20, 1971.

It is made of brick with a stepped gable and small ornamental turrets; the only exception are some corner stones on the ground floor and the door frame. In addition, there are still traces of half-timbered construction in the rear of the Romerhuis. It was restored in the old style between 1939 and 1941 by Jules Kayser, and recovered from the war damage in 1950.

Named after its founders, it has been owned by the Hendrick de Keyser Association since 1927. The name "Romerhuis" recalls the Venlo magistrate family Romer from the 17th century. The building is currently in use as a shop where quality coffee, tea and chocolate products are sold.
Date Built: 1490
