Het stadhuis van Venlo is een vrijstaand stadhuis in renaissancestijl. Het ligt aan het centrale plein, de Markt, vroeger ook wel Het Cruys geheten), op de kruising van zowel de Steenstraat/Gasthuisstraat/Parade met de Lomstraat/Vleesstraat in de Nederlandse stad Venlo in de gelijknamige gemeente.

Het eerste stadhuis van Venlo (een van de weinige in steen opgetrokken huizen van de stad) was in de eerste helft van de 14e eeuw eigendom van Gerard van Bocholt, die het pand nadat Venlo in 1343 stadsrechten kreeg aan het stadsbestuur in eigendom overdroeg. Het stadsbestuur vergaderde aanvankelijk bij de schepenen thuis.

Het "Steenen Huys" werd voor het eerst vermeld 1374. De adellijke heren die hier rechten hadden waren grotendeels door de Hertog van Gelre uitgekocht en verlieten de stad. Het is 250 jaar in gebruik geweest, totdat de welvaart en vrede het toelieten een moderner gebouw te stichten. Met gebruikmaking van bestaande delen werd een statig renaissancegebouw ontworpen door bouwmeester Willem van Bommel uit Emmerik. Het gebouw kwam nu vrij te staan. Het is gebouwd tussen 1597 en 1601. De muurankers aan de voorgevel geven 1598 aan. Bij de voorgevel sluiten twee hoektorens van ongelijke hoogte aan; de oostelijke met een uurwerk, de westelijke met een zonnewijzer. De trappen en het bordes zijn toegevoegd in 1609. Het baldakijn werd aangebracht in 1735.

Venlo is de grootste gemeente in Noord-Limburg en na Maastricht, qua inwonertal de tweede van de Nederlandse provincie Limburg. De gemeente omvat meerdere stadsdelen, zoals in het westen aan de overkant van de rivier de Maas Blerick en in het zuiden Tegelen en Belfeld en in het noorden de dorpen Arcen, Lomm en Velden. De gemeente heeft in totaal 102.038 inwoners per 1 juli 2021 (CBS). Qua inwonertal staat Venlo in Limburg op de tweede, in Nederland op de 31e plaats.

De Venlose geschiedenis gaat terug tot in de vroege IJzertijd, zoals uit opgravingen van de grafheuvels op de Jammerdaalse Heide is gebleken. In de Romeinse tijd was er al sprake van een nederzetting, maar die speelde, in tegenstelling tot het destijds grotere Blariacum (Blerick) met een eigen Romeinse garnizoen, als woonplaats een minimale rol. Van de ontstaansgeschiedenis van Venlo is relatief weinig bekend. In 1343 verwierf Venlo stadsrechten.

Venlo City Hall is a detached city hall in Renaissance style. It is located on the central square, the Markt, formerly also called Het Cruys, at the intersection of both Steenstraat/Gasthuisstraat/Parade with Lomstraat/Vleesstraat in the Dutch city of Venlo in the municipality of the same name.

The first city hall of Venlo (one of the few stone-built houses in the city) was owned in the first half of the 14th century by Gerard van Bocholt, who transferred the property to the city council after Venlo was granted city rights in 1343. The city council initially met at the aldermen's homes.

The "Steenen Huys" was first mentioned in 1374. The noble lords who had rights here were largely bought out by the Duke of Gelre and left the city. It has been in use for 250 years, until prosperity and peace allowed a more modern building to be built. Using existing parts, a stately Renaissance building was designed by master builder Willem van Bommel from Emmerik. The building was now free. It was built between 1597 and 1601. The wall anchors on the facade indicate 1598. Two corner towers of unequal height adjoin the front facade; the eastern with a clockwork, the western with a sundial. The stairs and landing were added in 1609. The canopy was added in 1735.

Venlo is the largest municipality in North Limburg and after Maastricht, the second largest municipality in the Dutch province of Limburg in terms of population. The municipality comprises several districts, such as in the west across the river Maas Blerick and in the south Tegelen and Belfeld and in the north the villages Arcen, Lomm and Velden. The municipality has a total of 102,038 inhabitants as of July 1, 2021 (CBS). In terms of population, Venlo is in second place in Limburg, in the Netherlands in 31st place.

Venlo history goes back to the early Iron Age, as has been shown by excavations of the burial mounds on the Jammerdaalse Heide. There was already a settlement in Roman times, but unlike the then larger Blariacum (Blerick) with its own Roman garrison, it played a minimal role as a place of residence. Relatively little is known about the history of Venlo. In 1343 Venlo acquired city rights.
