This bell is a replica of the bell of independence of Guanajuato and it's on display in the Regional Museum of this city.

It's not clear what was the role of the original bell in the independence of Mexico and there is no plaque with details near the bell.

Most likely it's a replica of Dolores bell, which in the village of Dolores, not far from Guanajuato, was used to call the population to react against the authorities. This happened on the 16th September 1810 and it's considered the first step leading to the independence of Mexico.
