Taiteilija Tauno Torpo on suunnitellut Turussa lukuisia eri muistolaattoja, myös joulurauhan julistuksessa käytettävä pergamentti vuodelta 1956 on hänen tekemänsä. Tässä reliefissä on kuvattuna hotelli Phoenix talo.
Turun yliopisto aloitti toimintansa entisen Hotelli Phoenixin rakennuksessa Kauppatorin laidalla. Opetus alkoi 27. kesäkuuta vuonna 1922. Tuolloin yliopiston kirjoissa oli 87 opiskelijaa, ja yliopisto koostui kahdesta tiedekunnasta – humanistisesta ja matemaattis-luonnontieteellisestä. Vuonna 1958 yliopisto muutti pois tästä rakennuksesta ja talo purettiin muutamaa vuotta myöhemmin.
Hotelli Phoenix oli Turussa Kauppatorin laidalla silloisen Venäjän Kirkkokadun (nykyisen Yliopistonkadun) varrella sijainnut, vuodesta 1878 vuoteen 1922 toiminut hotelli. Rakennus tunnettiin Phoenixin talona vielä silloinkin, kun se oli vuonna 1920 perustetun yksityisen Turun yliopiston päärakennus. Phoenixin talo purettiin vuonna 1959.

The artist Tauno Torpo has designed numerous commemorative plaques in Turku, and the parchment from 1956 used in the declaration of Christmas peace is also made by him. This relief depicts the hotel Phoenix.
The University of Turku started its operations in the building of the former Hotel Phoenix on the edge of the Market Square. Teaching began on June 27, 1922. At that time, the university had 87 students on its books, and the university consisted of two faculties — the humanities and the mathematical-natural sciences. In 1958, the university moved out of this building and the house was demolished a few years later.
Hotel Phoenix was located on the edge of the Market Square in Turku, along the then Venäjän Kirkkokatu (now Yliopistonkatu), which operated from 1878 to 1922. The building was still known as the Phoenix House when it was the main building of the private University of Turku, founded in 1920. The Phoenix House was demolished in 1959.
