El edificio y la institución
La casa consistorial de Albacete es un edificio moderno de estilo clasicista del siglo XX que alberga la sede del Ayuntamiento de Albacete ubicado en la ciudad española de Albacete. Se encuentra situada en la plaza de la Catedral, en pleno centro histórico de la capital junto al parque de San Juan y otros edificios emblemáticos como la catedral de San Juan Bautista o la casa de Hortelano, sede del Museo de la Cuchillería de Albacete.
El Ayuntamiento de Albacete tuvo su primera sede en Villacerrada. Las casas municipales, como se llamaba por entonces al ayuntamiento, fueron construidas a principios del siglo xvi. El edificio, que fue conocido como Salas Capitulares de Santa María de la Estrella, también se utilizaba como cárcel.
El mal estado del edificio obligó en 1817 a trasladar el Ayuntamiento de Albacete a su segunda sede: la llamada casa Lonja, en la plaza Mayor, un edificio de estilo neoclásico.
El ayuntamiento instaló su sede en la plaza del Altozano en 1903, en la antigua casa Cortés, remodelada para la ocasión por el arquitecto Martínez Villena y estrenada en 1905 por el rey Alfonso XIII.
Finalmente el ayuntamiento se quedó pequeño y se trasladó a su actual ubicación en 1986. El edificio, diseñado por los arquitectos José Luis Palencia y Jesús García Gil e inaugurado en 1986, está situado en la plaza de la Catedral.

Los orígenes de la ciudad son inciertos –existen restos prerromanos y romanos bajo la misma–, aunque las primeras certezas de su existencia se encuentran en el siglo ix durante el dominio andalusí de la zona, habiendo sido llamada la ciudad originalmente ?????? Al-Basit, en árabe «el llano».

The building and the institution
The Albacete town hall is a modern, classicist-style building from the 20th century that houses the headquarters of the Albacete City Council located in the Spanish city of Albacete. It is located in the Plaza de la Catedral, in the historic center of the capital next to the San Juan park and other emblematic buildings such as the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista or the Hortelano house, headquarters of the Albacete Cutlery Museum. < br>
The Albacete City Council had its first headquarters in Villacerrada. The municipal houses, as the town hall was then called, were built in the early 16th century. The building, which was known as the Santa María de la Estrella Chapter Rooms, was also used as a prison.
The poor condition of the building in 1817 forced the Albacete City Council to move to its second headquarters: the so-called Lonja house, in the Plaza Mayor, a neoclassical building.
The city council installed its headquarters in the Plaza del Altozano in 1903, in the old Cortés house, remodeled for the occasion by the architect Martínez Villena and opened in 1905 by King Alfonso XIII.
Finally, the town hall grew small and moved to its current location in 1986. The building, designed by the architects José Luis Palencia and Jesús García Gil and inaugurated in 1986, is located in the Plaza de la Catedral.

It is the easternmost capital of Castilla-La Mancha, located to the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula in the middle of a vast countryside of high natural value near the San Blas hill, on which the medieval city of Chinchilla de Montearagón is located, in the historic region of La Mancha de Montearagón, currently framed within the Los Llanos region.
It is, by far, the largest6 and most populated city in Castilla-La Mancha, with 174,336 inhabitants (INE 2020), experiencing, since the middle of the 20th century, a very significant demographic growth.
It is the most populated provincial capital in the southern sub-plateau after Madrid. Its metropolitan area, which has 217,774 inhabitants, is the largest in Castilla-La Mancha and one of the thirty largest urban agglomerations in the country.
The origins of the city are uncertain - there are pre-Roman and Roman remains under it - although the first certainties of its existence are found in the 9th century during the Andalusian rule of the area, the city having been originally called ?????? Al-Basit, in Arabic "the plain."
