Friday February 9, 1951, a major alarm was given for a fire in the Koningin Wilhelminahaven. This fire killed five firefighters and left five families in deep mourning. At this spot in the Emaus cemetery a monument has been erected for them.

"On the morning of 9 February 1951 a strong wind blew, causing oil to accumulate in the Wilhelminahaven in Vlaardingen. The oil caught fire for unknown reasons. The combination of strong winds, burning oil on the water surface and a lot of smoke made it a serious, complex situation. Not only Piet van Delft, but also his colleagues Albert Maat, Herman Westdijk, Mari Kok and Piet Batenburg were killed on that day. They were with seven people in a fire truck that ran into water and ended up in the burning oil. There were also two civilians in this car, who were injured in the accident"
