The city coat of arms in Sarpsborg can be seen as a sculpture in Kulåsparken. The sculpture is made of iron and with the walking bear and the castle from the city coat of arms.
When the city coat of arms is in color, it is a black bear over a black castle, and a yellow background color.
The design of the city coat of arms dates from 1965, when Sarpsborg City Council chose it on the basis of the city's history.
"King Olav Haraldsson founded the town of Borg in 1016, originally as a protected castle with an embankment and tomb around it. With a castle in the name, it was therefore natural that the city's coat of arms had a castle as its motive. The bear is from Alv Erlingsson, who in 1285 was appointed earl of Sarpsborg. His mark was a bear." (
