The Diepenheim family, first owners of Huis Diepenheim in the seigniory of Diepenheim, is mentioned for the first time in 1105. The then lord of Diepenheim, Wolbertus, "kept hoff on syn Castrum next to the Watermill". The house is first mentioned in 1177, when the former castle was destroyed. In 1180 a new house is built. In 1331, the ownership of the house is attributed to the bishop of Utrecht, when bishop Jan III van Diest buys the manor to take possession of the whole of Twente.[1] This meant a considerable investment for the bishop, for which he even had to borrow money from his great enemy, the Duke of Gelre.
The ownership of the house changes many times throughout the years. Currently the barones De Vos van Steenwijk is the owner of Huis Diepenheim"
