De watertoren van IJsselstein-Vreeswijk staat op de grens van van beide plaatsen aan het Jaagpad. In 1911 kwamen daar tegelijk een gemeenschappelijk water- en gasbedrijf. Alleen de watertoren resteert nog en is op een bijzondere wijze met het systeem Dumas opgebouwd.

Van de gasfabriek bij de watertoren zijn inmiddels geen sporen meer terug te vinden, wel van het waterbedrijf. Zowel de watertoren als het dienstgebouw op het terrein zijn gebouwd naar een een ontwerp van aannemer F.J. Stulemeyer & Co., een bedrijf uit Breda. Rond die tijd werden door dit bedrijf ook een silo in de Maashaven te Rotterdam gerealiseerd, de bekende fabriekshallen van De Sphinx te Maastricht, gebouwen en silo’s voor Wessanen & Laan in Wormerveer en de fabrieksgebouwen voor ‘De Etna’ in Breda.

De watertoren kent een voor Nederland erg bijzondere opbouw en is naar de stand van de betontechniek een vroeg voorbeeld van geprefabriceerde delen van beton. De prefab betonblokken zijn gemaakt naar het systeem van de Belg Dumas. Stulemeijer had daarvoor het patent voor Nederland verworven. Kleine betonelementen werden op de bouwplaats vervaardigd, geprefabriceeerd. De elementen hadden uitsparingen voor de later te plaatsen wapening. Na het stapelen van de verschillende elementen en het aanbrengen van de wapening werden de kanalen met beton gevuld. Zo ontstond een 28,5 hoog bouwwerk dat een watervat van zo’n 200 m3 kon dragen. Er zijn indertijd twee van deze torens gebouwd in Nederland, de toren van Oudewater is gesloopt. De toren van Nieuwegein is rijksmonument.

The water tower of IJsselstein-Vreeswijk stands on the border of both places on the Jaagpad. In 1911, a joint water and gas company was established there at the same time. Only the water tower remains and has been constructed in a special way with the Dumas system.

No traces of the gas factory near the water tower can now be found, but there are traces of the water company. Both the water tower and the service building on the site were built to a design by contractor F.J. Stulemeyer & Co., a company from Breda. Around that time, this company also realized a silo in the Maashaven in Rotterdam, the well-known factory halls of De Sphinx in Maastricht, buildings and silos for Wessanen & Laan in Wormerveer and the factory buildings for 'De Etna' in Breda.

The water tower has a very special construction for the Netherlands and, according to the state of concrete technology, is an early example of prefabricated concrete parts. The prefab concrete blocks are made according to the system of the Belgian Dumas. Stulemeijer had acquired the patent for the Netherlands for this. Small concrete elements were manufactured on site, prefabricated. The elements had recesses for the reinforcement to be placed later. After stacking the various elements and installing the reinforcement, the channels were filled with concrete. This created a 28.5 high structure that could support a water vessel of about 200 m3. Two of these towers were built in the Netherlands at the time, the tower of Oudewater has been demolished. The tower of Nieuwegein is a national monument.
