In 2011 I went with a group to do a klettersteig activity. I had never done it before. Little did we know this activity would lead us up into the national mountain of Slovenia, mt Triglav, and would take a whopping 10 h of intense climbing. We went from the monument with the carabine hook at the bottom, through a path with klettersteig clamps up the steep north face of Triglav. We climbed to about 1000 m higher than where we started and then went down the more usual, northeastern pathway to the same monument with the carabine hook. At several stretches there were klettersteig clamps. I thought it was much more difficult going down, because I was tired, and there were anxious moments at places where I wish there were klettersteig clamps, but there were none. A guide is adviced, but we saw plenty of locals going to the top without even the safety gear we had! It is the duty of a Slovenian citizen, it is said, to reach the top of Mt Triglav once in a lifetime. It was an experience I will never forget.
