'Zwembad De Hoevert in Didam sluit op zondag 20 december 2020 de deuren. Dat meldt het zwembad. Wie wil, mag een flesje zwemwater komen halen.
Waterratten die het bijna vijftig jaar oude bad een warm hart toedragen, krijgen op de dag van de sluiting de kans nog een laatste bezoek aan het bad te brengen. Wie een fles meeneemt, mag die zelfs vullen met water uit het bad. Verder mogen ze afscheid nemen van het personeel.
Wie wil kan een kijkje nemen in de machinekamer van de Hoevert, een plek in het zwembad die verboden terrein was voor bezoekers. Wel is een mondkapje verplicht. Bezoekers moeten bovendien anderhalve meter afstand houden van elkaar.
Om 15.00 uur gaat de stop symbolisch uit het bad. Daarmee komt een einde aan ruim 47 jaar overdekt zwemmen in Didam.
In oktober velde de gemeenteraad van Montferland het vonnis.'
