WWII in Norway. Occupied by the germans.
All supplies was lacking, food especially, and the
cities was hit hardest.
Everyone did their best to add to whatever was to
find in the shops. Having animals at home, even in apartments
was not unusual. Growing vegetabels on any patch of land. etc.
University nnot any better off than the rest.
This picture shows voluntary students and employees
plowing a small field just outside the building housing
the departmenst of Chemistry and Physics.
Growing potatoes, cabbage, and other rootfruits.

Today the area is made into a nice outdor park-like place
between the buildings, for relaxation, eating, having a short break
from work and studies. For many years the place was filled
up with barracs, left by the germans. Used by the university
until 1995.

Picture is taken sometime during WWII, most probably 1941-1944.
Notice the bike parking is the same place. The remaining trees have grown tall, etc.
Year photo was taken: 1940
