Bodø was bombed and the church burned down on 27 May 1940. A new church was built and was completed in 1956. A statue of Jesus is located above the front door. It is made by the artist Kristoffer Leirdal.
Jesus of Nazareth born approx. 4 f.v.t., died approx. year 31 e.v.t. also called Jesus Christ or simply Christ, is the central figure in Christianity. He is considered by most Christians to be a person who prayed to God, called himself the Son of God and was sent by God. According to the Bible, he had 12 disciples following him as he preached and performed miracles.
Christians consider Jesus to be the Messiah whose coming was foretold in the Old Testament and that Jesus rose from the dead after being crucified.
He is also an important figure in several other religions. In Islam, Jesus is considered an important prophet, but Muslims do not believe that Jesus was divine. The Jews do not consider Jesus the Messiah, nor do they recognize him as the Son of God or part of the Trinity.
