Olav the Holy was King of Norway from 1015 to 1028. Olav was elected saint in 1031.
When Saint Olav was killed, he was temporarily buried near the river. When his body was dug up and moved to the place where Nidaros Cathedral is now built, this sacred spring sprang from his grave

The water from the St Olav spring should be holy and give blessing and strength to those who drink, or touch it.
