Before going into the processions that star in the acts of Holy Week, we indicate three notes for travelers who have more time. The Stations of the Cross of the parishes that throughout the week walk the streets of the neighborhood, walking their faith and tradition; the cultural events that are organized from the Friday of Dolores to the Sunday of Resurrection -pregón, concerts, conferences, performances, exhibitions and photographic contests-; the liturgical services that nurture the faith of all those who want to attend them and that each year are more numerous.
With the Procession of Palm Sunday, the cycle of manifestations of popular piety begins with the Paso de Jesús entering Jerusalem, by the sculptor José María García Moro, accompanied by the children of the brotherhoods carrying palms.
The ten brotherhoods and brotherhoods that make up the Holy Week Board organize, from Monday, Via Crucis and processions in the neighborhoods, highlighting the one that on Holy Wednesday is celebrated in the garden of the Carmelite Fathers, on the avenue, in the same hill. that San Juan de la Cruz toured.
The processions have two parts; on the one hand, the penance station carried out by each brotherhood from its temple to the Cathedral between Thursday afternoon and night and Friday morning; and on the other, the Procession of the Steps, which takes place in the early hours of Good Friday twilight.
Spectacular is the passage of the brotherhood of the Association of Former Students of the Marists and its entry into the city under the Arco del Socorro or the route of the passage of La Oración en el Huerto through the suburb of San Lorenzo. Its contemplation makes the trip worthwhile.
On Good Friday, with twilight, all the brotherhoods undertake the Procession of the Steps, from the Cathedral. They parade following the chronological order of the Passion: The Prayer in the Garden, by J. Rius; The Flagellation, by José Quixal like Jesus with the Cross on his shoulders; La Virgen de las Angustias, from the school of Juan de Juni (16th century); Santo Cristo de la Cruz, anonymous (17th century); Santo Cristo de San Marcos, Castilian school (17th century); El Santo Cristo in his last word and La Soledad at the foot of the Cross, by Aniceto Marinas from Segovia; The Magdalena at the foot of the Cross, by Sebastián Sanobra; La Piedad by José Quixal; The Santo Cristo de los Gascones (12th century); the Reclining Christ, on the way to the Sepulcher, by Gregorio Fernández (1615); and La Soledad Dolorosa. On Easter Sunday, the Board of Brotherhoods accompanies the Resurrected Jesus in procession (anonymous, 16th century), having as a background the breathing of the bell towers of the churches of the walled enclosure.
The beauty of the imagery, the framework of the World Heritage City, the solemnity and a sincere religiosity, have made Holy Week in Segovia declared of National Tourist Interest.
A religious celebration, unique in the world, has been celebrated in the capital Segovia since the 15th century, on the occasion of a sacrilege then committed.
