"The fortress consists of a barracks covered with earthenware and is surrounded by a moat about 20 meters wide. The access bridge is not original. The plot covers an area of ??approximately 1.5 hectares. A gun depot was added to the work in 1886, but it was demolished in 1940 when trenches were being built. At the same time, the ramparts were also largely leveled. The fort watchman's house, dating from 1880, still exists, but has been modified afterwards.

The work is located east of Maarssen, at the intersection of Herenweg and Maarsseveensevaart. It served to defend the access to the Maarsseveensevaart, a dike road with a canal, and the dikes of the Maarsseveense and Tienhoven polders.

To the north of the fort is Fort bij Tienhoven and to the south Fort aan de Klop and Fort De Gagel.

Today it is valued as a national monument. The Waterliniepad passes this fort."
